I have a Megashifter from B&M on my 69 camaro with a th350. The cable setup does not seem to work to well. I have broken the cable once already and the previous owner broke it at least once before me. I believe it is breaking due to vibration on the frame. Putting a rubber hose around it where it hits the frame did not work. Does anyone have a b&m cable shifter that has figured out a way to fix this problem. I rather not have to replace it every year or less. Trying to drive home in stuck in a gear is not easy and towing it gets expensive. What other shifters could I use?

I'm pretty happy with my Hurst V-matic. I've only had it for a year, but I've put 6000 miles on it and probably 70 1/4 mile passes with no probs. I like the looks too.

The biggest thing with the cable is the routing. You want the cable to come straight out of the shifter, then in a very wide loop curve around over the trans and then down to the selector lever. Too tight a loop will cause the shifter to bind and cable to eventually break. I have broken one, my fault, and after that have never broken another one. Correctly routed they will last indefinately.

I have a mega shifter installed in my 68 and routed the cable as per the instruction sheet supplied from B & M and I have had no problems in several years use.
If you do not have a copy of the installation instructions it is basically as follows:
Bring the cable rearward from the transmission linkage to around behind the rear transmission mount, underneath the transmission tail piece then forward on the right hand side of the tunnel toward the bellhousing then curl around to the left above the transmission, up through the floor to the shifter.
I hope this is clear

Thanks guys. I'll try re-routing mine. You guys have any pictures of how yours are routed?
