depends on whaich supercharger it is. the big ones- maybe- if you don't need a carburetor for anything. the smaller ones i think might fit, depending on how tall the air cleaner is.

The small B&M 144 blower will fit under a factory cowl hood with a drop base aircleaner and either a 2 or 3 inch element.

The B&M 144 will not fit under a stock cowl hood. I have a '69 Z28 with a ZZ4, B&M 144, Barry Grant 750DP and the stock hood would not close WITHOUT an aircleaner. Yes the aircleaner bolt was out of the carb. I use a 3"K&N with 3/4" drop base and a 4" glass cowl hood and it will barely close. Love the setup but the folks at B&M were absolutely wrong when they said it would fit.

Ray, there is a guy in the next town from me with a 69 with the small(144?) blower under the stock cowl hood. I looked it over very well because I was considering buying one myself and didn't think it could be done. I was unable to find him and ask him how he did it. I do remember his air cleaner was very short(height).

Ray, thanks for the pictures you've sent me. (I thought you forgot me after 2 months
)
Anyway, great lookin car you've got there. It seems that your 4" cowl hood is just enough for the B&M.

Ratmotr, If you can show me some pictures of that car it would be great for me, cause I also want a B&M under the hood, and if this is possible with the stock cowl in stead of a 4" cowl hood....cool.

A good friend of mine has a 69 Camaro small block, stock frame pads and mounts, stock steel cowl hood and the B&M 144 blower under the hood. He used an Edelbrock carb, drop base air cleaner, 3" element, and a flat top to the air cleaner (14"). It definitely clears.

I'm not sure why the above guys doesn't clear but it sounds like he has a taller frame pad or engine mount.

Anthony & Jody,

If this car is stock I would really appreciate any info on how he fit the 144 under the hood. Mine isn't close to fitting. Is the owner of the car a member of Camaros.net?

Stenn5,

The deal you are talking about sounds like a good one but I am concerned about the combination. Personally I would rather have one of the bigger blowers with anything larger in displacement than a 350 cube engine. A 144 blower(polished ?), complete engine and trans is a good deal for than amount of money, if in good shape.

DL,

Had to wait for the college kid to get home with the digital camera to get you the pix. He's back getting an education so I can't send any others to show the group how the engine/blower sits in the engone compartment.

Any info on the setup that fits an unaltered(stock) vehicle would be great.

Ray,

I called him before I posted just to make sure that it was a B&M 144 blower. I'm positive it's a stock cowl hood and I'm positive it fits with the air cleaner described up above as I've seen the car several times at his shop. He said as far as he knows the mounts and frame pads are stock small block items. He did buy the blower about 7 years ago. Has B&M re-designed their kit, blower, manifold and it's now taller? If so, that would explain it. But his system fits.

Ray, hope you don't mind posting your photo of your car, but I like to know what they think is the (main) problem with the blower.

Just another quick question, is the hood-clearance the same for a '67/'68 and a '69 when they all have smallblocks and the same intake/carb/airfilter?

Ray, the only thing I can think of is that I believe you can get an 1 1/2 drop base. Maybe that's how he's able to run the stock hood.

This is stimulating some great conversation and I wish that I knew about this site before I put a new hood on. Actually I wanted the hood anyways.

JC, What are 1/4 spacers?

Ratmotr, I searched for a 1 1/2" x 14" drop plate for my 750DP but could only get a 3/4". Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I don't have the slightest idea if my frame brackets for the motor mounts are stock. I never gave it any thought that they would be anything different. Subframe mounts have been replaced so maybe that is also a source of my problem. The manifold and blower are slightly more than 3" taller than the ZZ4 intake manifold which is 4 1/2" tall. Anyone with a '69 2" cowl hood try to put a 3" block on the front of your aircleaner, DON'T slam the hood. Try 1" or 2" block. I used pieces of styrofoam to see if they got crushed.

Please keep me informed, Ray
