in comparison to a 283,327, or 350, what does a 302 balancer look like. anything special to look for besides a DZ stamping on the block? also where do i look for info on decoding block numbers using the web?

DZ302's used an 8" balancer (P/N 3947708); note that 1969 was the first year with the timing mark NOT in line with the crank keyway; it was offset 9 degrees counter-clockwise from the keyway, and requires the corresponding 1969 timing cover - the tab covers almost the full width of the balancer.

I've always found it odd that the first gen Z-28's 302 had the bigger 8 inch balancer, but used the small 10.5 inch clutch...all other engines of that period had big-big or little-little.
