I just picked up a 69 z28 with low miles. The origional owner said the car has never been repainted but the rear stripes are spread wider apart on the trunk than they are on the hood. Have you ever heard of this.
The wider spacing for the rear stripes was a mid-year change during the 69 model year.
If you do a search for "stripe spacing" here, you'll find quite a few threads with discussion. I can't recall seeing an exact date for when the spacing changed for each plant.
Next question. The numbers stamped on the front of the blodc hace the DZ numbers and the cars vin numbers. BUT there two digets that are larger than the others. Whats up with that?
The 69 Z/28 rear stripe layout is different than 67-68. It was not a mid-year change; very few early cars were done that way. The Z/28 Hot Rod magazine tested [Jan 69] had the 67-68 rear layout. I do not know of a survivor with the early layout. Many restored 69s are done wrong.

I had a guy that restores these cars look at my car and he told me that he thought the stripes were wrong on the trunk and the numbere should be all the same size on the engine. SO-- some of the best will think its a clone unless I can back it up. Where can I find documents that show this.
Ok. There is a great story behind this car, but I'll give the short version. The origional owner had his sister cosign for him in 69. He went to war, cameback and went to school, got sick and passed away. The cosigner (sister) took possession and gave it to her son. The son couldn't care less about the car. Another relitive thought he should have it. He broke out all the glass. The family hid the car and the car has set that way since 1980. Out side in the weather. The car has 7,864 origional miles on it, but will need a complete rebuild bnecause of the condition it's in. I found it after years of searching. Made a couple offers and was turned down. He called me a couple weeks ago and wanted me to buy it. It's now in my garage. Could be a money pit.

Fantastic find made even better by knowing the history behind the car. Any chance you know where the smog equipment went? With such low mileage I would have expected to see it...

I don't know if this thread is worth it yet. I need to see documentation showing that the numbers on the block has two of the vin numbers 1 1/2 times larger. I had a camaro restorer saying he has never seen this and questions the fact that it's the real thing. I didn't get any proof,so he left thinking its Questionable.

Well then he doesnt know Van Nuys stampings very well. The stamping you have is legit. I am not going to beg you to believe me.
Here is one off a 70 z/28 from VanNuys, notice the 2 7's are larger. This is a known fact. Not all VanNuys stampings had a mix of larger characters but there are many examples out there. As for your pics, all you had to do was email them to me, but I guess you dont want my help.
maybe you should post some pictures of the engine block numbers, vin, trim tag, ect. and the guys here can help you out! they wont lie to ya and you will get the information farily quick!
I would if I could. Othes sites I have let you go advanced and I can have my picture on in seconds. They make it so easy a monkey can do it. I have tried this photo bucket and one of my pictures is there. But I cant paste it here. This really sucks.
Where are you, in the twilight zone?? You would never find a 69 Z/28 just sitting in a field around here. :noway: Great find.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
