I noticed that the positive post on my battery was black as supposed to silver when I went to start my car today, which in fact did need a trickle and boy was it dead.Could someone tell me what the problem is? or what to look for? All the cables are good, all the conections are tight, and it's a new batt and starter. What's up? Thanx

Be sure the connections are clean, and that you altenator is putting out.And it's also possible that you have a weak or bad cell in the battery, and it;s not holding a charge. With the engine off, the battery should show 11-12 volts across the pos+ and neg- posts, with a volt meter. Then with the engine running, check again, and see if you get around 13-14 volts, this would show that the system is chargeing.
Just for the hell of it ,try another battery.Other that that, something may be sucking down the battery, like a light,or cd player o something that is on arter the key is off.
