Guys..I am looking for one of those battery chargers..That you use when you store a car...The kind you hook up and plug in and forget(well not forget but the ones that claim not to do any damage)..I have heard about the "battery tender plus"..Just not sure how they work on the gell cells...Anyone know of a company that produces a charger similiar to the battery tender...Also any info where I can purchase one on the net..For cheap..Ok..forget cheap how about reasonably priced...Thanks in advance

You won't need a battery tender if you disconnect the battery cables.

I use to just remove the battery and occasionaly put the charger on it(messed a few up that way to)...But would rather just set it up so I can leave it in the car and just put it on a float charge..Since the cars are not daily drivers and are kept in a heated garage they sometime sit for a few weeks...So would like the setup of just leaving them plugged in...Thanks

There was a very good article on batteries and chargers in a recent issue of Drag Racing USA. Gel cells apparently need a different charger to obtain the maximum life. The battery "tenders" apparently do a much better job than the trickle chargers as far as long term storage. I would call the battery manufacturer to be certain. By the way, batteries will lose thier charge when sitting, even when completely disconnected from the car. There is a small amount of "leakage" internally that causes the charge to be lost.

The GOOD ones are all made by Deltran Corporation, who owns the "Battery Tender" trademark. Eastwood has them on sale right now for $50.00. "Trickle chargers" will fry your battery if left on for any length of time; the "Battery Tender" is microprocessor-controlled and can be left on with no ill effects - I've used them for years on all my toys. I bought extra lead wire sets and hard-wired them to all my cars so I don't have to fool around with clamps on the battery terminals - just pull out the connector from the car, plug it into the connector on the "Battery Tender" lead, and plug it in. I connect it to each car about once a month during the winter - takes about a day for the green light to come on, and I move it to the next one. The "Junior" model is the same principle, but is a "wall-wart" that plugs into the wall - it's made for smaller batteries like motorcycles and riding mowers.
