How can you tell the dif. between a tall deck bbc (truck) and a car bbc? I'm more of a sbc guy, but a friend says he has a 427 bbc he would sell me for my 69 rs. I asked him if it's a tall deck (truck) or from a car he does not know. Were I live there are a lot of grain trucks with 427.

You can pretty easily tell if you can look at a standard deck big block...look at the water pump mounts, and notice how far it is to the 'deck', best way I can describe it..not very far. Now look at the tall deck, it's almost 1/2" higher (or farther away) I realize if you're a small block guy, this might not be possible. Or, have him jot down casting numbers, then you can tell for sure. I just brought home a 427 tall deck today! Steel crank, and 4 bolt...My friend was cleaning out his garage, and I couldnt pass it up. Makes a nice stroker engine.

Look at the back of the block. If it is cast PASS HI PERF, it is from a car. If it says TRUCK, it a tall deck.
