Is there a way to accurately phase a GM HEI at the bench without a distributor machine? I know how to do it on a running engine with a cut out distributor cap and timing light, but wasn’t sure how to do it at the bench. I am concerned about electrical power to the distributor and damaging up the module or pickup.

Doesn't sound like many are biting on this one. I figure if there is a will, there is a way. A crafty person can do almost anything. But the ol hole in the cap method is pretty hard to beat. Any reason you wouldn't want to do it that way? I can't imagine any need to be concerned about electrical power to the module. If power damages the module, better to find out now instead of later.

I decided to line up the rotor with a cap tower when a reluctor paddle is lined up with the pickup. Final adjustment will come once the distributor is on a running engine and I can use the "timing light - hole in the distributor cap" technique. Thanks.
