What are your goals for the car? What kind of brakes do you want?
Many here have the more "old school" 14's or 15's on their street drivers with rally wheels, but you have clearance issues with many of the larger disc brakes until you get up to 17s or even 18s in many instances. IMO anything bigger than 18s there is not enough rubber showing. The pictures in my signature are with 18s, I'm trying for that pro-touring look and performance and look forward to running my car in some Auto-X and open track events.
...”the best” for you may not be the best for me, it is all about what you like. For instance, I can’t stand Cragar SSs, but lots of people love them, and good for them! And if you like them, buy them and good for you too! My suggestion is go on the newstalgia website and stat looking at wheels. When you see some you like, link them back here. Then maybe someone will know something more in line with your tastes that you might like and haven’t seen yet!
Fwiw, CRAGAR made what was called a "Road Star" way back then that was a deep-dish chrome steel rim w/ "flatter" triangles cut out of it and I'm here to say they are GREAT looking old style rims to this day to me!!!
I saw a set years ago on a 2nd Gen. black 'Bird and they musta been 15" x 10's or 12's w/ N-50's on them!!
Thanks for all the input. I can't wait to start looking. I guess I should have clarified better about which wheels to get. I was looking for what size was the best not which particular pattern or style. I understand that goes with personal preference but I DO care about which you like and seeing the pics. What are your basic requirements? For example, what needs to be used on a 3'' dropped, BAER brake kit, and a tubbed rear....is worlds apart from what a stock suspension/brake/bodied car would require. I don't like 14's, just too small. Had a pair of 15 x 8'' cragar ss with 225/60/15's on them, and nearly everyone liked them. I can't recall seeing any 16'' rims on these cars, though I may have and not noticed it. Personally, 18'' is the absolute max I find visually appealing in most cases. Some wicked 20''+ 1st gens out there, but I can't say those would look good on less radical cars. Myself, I'm awaiting the brown truck to deliver my new 17'' wheels. Love the look IF you have the brakes to compliment it. I don't have any big BAER conversion kits behind them, but simply new slotted/cross-drilled/vented rotors on an original 4-wheel drum car, works for me. Front's are dropped 2'' by Hotchkis springs, rear mono's are quite a bit lower than stock as well. If I need to make a long highway trip, or when it sees track time, I'll swap over to less radical 14/15''.
Lately, most are seeing how low they can go, and fit huge rubbers on all 4 corners. Personally, I just prefer 17''s for cruising the streets, and smaller diameter when I need the ultimate performance in a straight line! I will say, I've caught a lot of flak from the older gentlemen, when I say I wen't with 17's and not the indefinetly 15'' popular cragar's and pro-stars. IMO it's hard to beat the looks of a 17''. Nothing too radical, but it gives great looks in a modern package. A little outside the norm.

I have always had 15" on my Camaro. I must admit I like the idea of 17" on them for that snazzy look. I have stock suspension, just installed new leaf springs and shocks/struts. I have original drum brakes all around. So I guess the question is, do I have enough clearance and the right capacity for them and if not, what should I do and what tires would be advised to avoid rubbing?
