Hey guys,

I'm from Team Chevelle looking for help. I don't have a Camaro now, but I have owned two and I still have an 80 Camaro rear bumper in my attic.

What can you expect dropping a bigblock on smallblock frame mounts as opposed to having the correct bigblock frame mounts. I've heard that the engine will sit higher and possibly tilted.

Any comments and help appreciated.

Thanks

On 1st gens the factory offset BBs about 1" to the right to gain some room around the steering gear. This requires different frame brackets, trans crossmember, clutch z-bar. For 69 BBs used a different bracket to mount the 4-speed shifter and longer linkage. The 67-68 BB frame brackets are designed for the 67-68 non-interlock motor mount; 69 brackets are designed for the interlocking motor mount and are shorter. Problem is the 67-68 motor mount will fit the 69 bracket. It will be a sloppy fit. The motor will be positioned too low, you will have vibrations, clutch chatter, etc.

If you insist on doing it wrong nothing will quite line up. And you will have little room for the LH header, espescially with power steering. Header designs are based on using the correct mounts.

I don't believe BB 2nd gen Camaros require unique BB hardware but they did use the HD Z28 motor mount and bracket.

If you're talking 3rd gen you're on your own!

In addition to what has been mentioned. If it is a 67 you will have little to no clearance between the wiper motor and the valve cover. Also, the pass side valve cover will come close about 1/2" to fire wall. HEI distributor will requre firewall mods for clearance. I would spend the 70 dollars on the BB frame mounts. I had SB frame mounts on my car when I got it. I am much happier with the BB mounts and the positioning and clearance of the accessories. My headers did not even requrie mods to clear the PS.
