I finally have got the fuel system finished, and fixed the oil leak, but today it won't start. I fixed the oil leak yesterday and drove it a couple of miles. This morning I decided to wash it and get some of the inch thick dust off it. Started it, drove it, washed it, and drove it to my house to get my wallet and then take it for a drive. The [email protected]^#ed thing wouldn't start. It doesn't even affect the voltage gauge when I turn the key to crank and the fuel pump doesn't change it's tune. So I thought the battery cable might be loose, not on the battery or the starter. I thought the key wire going to the starter might have burned in 2 on the header, still together. I also know that there is power getting to the starter, I was using a screwdriver to check the wires and arced it over to the header.

So I am thinking either key switch or bad starter or possibly coil. What do you guys think? I have changed the engine harness, so I don't think it's wiring under the hood. The starter is a 2hp mini-tq about 1yr old. I haven't changed the key switch out and it looks like it may be original. How hard is it to change the key switch? HELP

Thanks 76maro, yes I have a heat shield but it is almost touching the headers. I guess I'll have to have the starter checked out. Thanks

If it's an automatic, turn the key to start and jiggle the shifter.
If it starts, the neutral safety switch is making poor contact and needs to be replaced.

I went out and messed around with it a little and got it to start. I was shifting it from park to 1st and turning the key from acc. to start and one of the 2 got it to crank. I went back in and watched Nascar, and when I finally decided to put it in the garage, it wouldn't do anything again. Did the same routine with the shifter and key and it started. I drove it and parked in the garage and it wouldn't start again. So I left it alone.

I messed with the shifter and the key switch so I am not sure which it would be. Does anybody else? How hard is it to change the key switch? The neutral safety switch?

it sounds like its definitly the neut. safty switch,there easy to change its on the top lower side of the steering colum.
