I have 4 wheel drum brakes with original wheel studs. I'am going to replae all the studs with some ARP. What is the best way to do this? Can they just be hammeres out, or can that couse any damage, is there any other way to do this. As for getting the new ones in, what is the best way to do this. For the rear I was thinking to put the stud through the hole and the pulling it trough with a nut on it. What about the front? can the same method be used? Bottom line is what is the best way to do this, thanks.

Best way pull the axles and use a press.
Press the old out and the new in.
Same for the front, pull the hubs off and use a press.

You can use a large vise and a couple of old sockets. to press the stud into when removing,

Pulling them through with washers and nuts is not so great of an idea, you will stretch the threads, defeets the purpose of replacemnt.

A hammer will work but you must support the back side when hammering, use it as a last resort.

Rob is right on the money. The wheel studs are something that you do not want to go bad on you. In any case, you should never hammer an axle while it is in the car (front or rear). It can damage both the inner and outer bearings, leading to an expensive fix. To remove both axles and replace the studs by taking them to your local shop should only take 1/2 day max. Be sure to replace the seals also. Cheap insurance.

Good luck
