I believe I have tried everything, but I am still open to suggestions. I have an '83 V6 with all the options. I have been trying to pass the IM test, I have even tried covering up the light, it passed everything except the visual. I have tried scan tools, but I cannot get the computer to communicate with me at all. I think I may have to replace the ECM, I am open to suggestions!

We had an 84 pickup with computer carb V8. We had to replace the computer TWICE!
It was mounted over the heater and either there was a leak in the windshield seal, or a bad heater core that corroded the connectors to the computer.
I'm no expert on these things, so don't E-Mail me with more info.
I DID notice that when the automatic choke wire got disconnected at the carb, the light stayed on. The choke wire also got burned by the exhaust manifold and blew the fuse.
Get some expert help, and save your sanity.

i have the ultimate cure for a check engine light that won't go out- pull the bulb. this will work only if they don't check to see if it is functional during the test.we don't have that emissions checking stuff around here.they had it in the minneapolis area, but it cost too much and there was no improvement in air quality, so they stopped it.i guess you could say anything goes.

Unplug the computer connectors and see if the light goes out.If not circuit 419 which is the brn/wht wire between light and computer is shorted to ground.pin b should have 5 volts on it and pin A is ground in the aldl.
