Hello everyone, I have a question I have not been able to answer with quite of bit of research and head scratching.

A few years ago I bought a circle track race car, and included in the deal were a variety of crankshafts. Up until now I had never looked at them much, they sat in my basement because I already had an engine for the car. I pulled them out when I moved and only kept one, a 1178 because of the rarity I found online about it.

I went to list it today for sale as I have no use for it, and took measurements to see if ti had been turned before. All main journal diameters are 2.450" +/- .001". All rod journal diameters are 2.000" +/- .001". I can not find a crank with these journal sizes. The only combinations I can find online are 2.45/2.10 or a 2.399/2.000.

Were the DZ 1178 crankshafts a different size than the regular 67 or 68/69 cranks used?

I'm really hoping someone on here may have some insight into what crank I may have here. Any thoughts/opinions are appreciated!

Thank you

68-69 large journal crank that someone had the rod journals turned down on so they could use small journal rods. Either it had a badly damaged journal and this was the way the guy saved it or they intentionally wanted to use small journal rods. Old drag racing trick. Good save but in my mind this hurts the value to most people

Great thank you so much for the help, that makes sense. I really appreciate it. I'll take it down to the machine shop this week and have it magnafluxed and cleaned up if it looks ok. Hopefully someone will want it and have a use for it. Hate to have something like this go to waste.

Thanks again!

Jerry
