I just replaced my non working console temp gauge in my 69 Camaro. It’s Brand new classic headquarters gauge. It came with a note saying it had a internal resistor so I didn’t put the old one back in. So now it starts at 1/2 and goest to around 3/4 when it gets warm. It hasn’t moved to hot yet. I believe it should go to cold when off and be around the 1/4 mark at normal temperature. Any suggestions?
Thanks Mark

Mark your "Temperature" gauge doesn't measure temperature at all it measures voltage. The way it works is you put full 12 voltage to the temp sensor and as the temperature rises the resistance in the circuit drops.

Your gauge labeled Temp is actually a voltmeter and can be "trimmed" or tuned to read ambient when cold and the 212 degrees when placed in a pot of boiling water by use of resistors. I might add that paint is an insulator. If you painted your heads and got paint on the threads it will never read correctly until those threads are cleaned.
