Hi All, was wondering how much clearance there is between the Pickup and the bottom of the oil pan on a stock Chev 350 (zz4) motor. Had some engine work done and a new pan put on. Dropped the motor in and notice when I was under the car the pan was dented in about 3/8 of an inch....Pulling the motor is not an option right now....I am thinking worst case I have a stud gun..I was thinking I could tac a couple of studs on there and knock it out with a slide hammer.

if the pan is pushed against the oil pickup, you could see an oil restriction...if its not over the pickup, you should be fine...if the dent is small in size, you should be fine...even if its near the pickup...the studgun thing wouldnt be a bad idea if the pan will actually knock out, but if the pan is old, or thin, dont do it...you will probably pull a piece of the pan out with the stud...

1/4" to 3/8" is typical in my experience.

Perhaps a pop-a-dent gizmo that uses hot glue in a threaded jig could pull it out.
