Ok, here goes my first post. 1995 3.4L with 180K runs great for the last couple years and yesterday pull into the gas station and she won't start. Tow her home and start checking things out. Sounds like it wanted to start but not getting fuel. With key on I don't hear the prime shot. Replace the FP relay but still nothing. Verify 12 volts at the relay and also at the fuel pump harness to car connection. So, it has to be the pump right? Works one minute and not the next with no warning symptoms? I just want to make sure before I yank the old one and drop $150 on a replacement. :confused:

thats usually how the fuel pumps go out.. works one second, the next it is dead

all i can say is check for fuel pressure at the engine and see if you have any.. really sounds like a fuel pump though

Zero pressure, went to hook my gauge up to the test fitting on the fuel rail and nothing there. I just wanted to rule out any other electrical issues before determining that it is the fuel pump. There are three pins on the connector from the car to pump harness. Not sure what the two smaller gauge pins do, pretty sure one is a ground, but I only checked the large gauge pin for 12 volts with key on.

im not really sure, but i can tell you that i have owned a v6 camaro before and i know that the fuel pumps are not reliable in them

from what i have seen, they usually go out around 60k, and if they dont go out then, after 120k you are skating on thin ice with them

from the stories i have heard, people say they were just sitting at a red light and all of a sudden the car would stall.. or they would try to start it and get nothing

Any recommendations on replacement pumps? I've found an Airtex #E3907 listed on a few sites from $125 - $150. Also, searching the posts here it looks like the way to go is cutting an access hole in the floor instead of dropping the tank. What are the pros and cons of going this route?

dealer hrs: 4.6

a pro for the trapdoor method is, that if you ever have to change the fuel pump or the fuel assembly in the tank again you need less time.
contra: if you don't work really good things can catch rust, maybe you miscut sth or even worse. if I would have to do this i would lower the rear axle and take the fuel tank out.

The hole in the hatch/trunk you asked about 18 inches long, and you need to rotate
the sending unit to remove. If you cut the sending unit lines, make very,very sure you have a good seal, it will be above the muffler, exhaust. Dont ruin your trunk.

I am trying to fix this the quickest and cheapest way possible, but I want to do it right. I am getting this one ready to sell. Price for the Carter pump $246 and $236 for the Bosch. Any problems using the Airtex?

Not quite sure I follow you. Don't the fuel lines have a quick release type of fitting? Don't ruin the trunk, how?
