Here is the VIN for my newly acquired '68. I think I decoded it right, but can't figure out the last digits. I thought the '68's started with a 5xxxxx sequentially? Anyone know about the last production digits?

VIN: 124378N408997

RESULTS: V8 / Coupe / Produced 1968 / Norwood Plant

Also, I cannot run a Carfax on this. It says it's an invalid VIN because it only has 13 digits. Anyone know how to run a history?

408997 was produced early April
No easy way to get history, start with your state DMV.

Jim you have most of it already.

1968 Camaro V8 Coupe assembled at the Norwood plant in early April, 1968.

Carfax doesn't do anything this old so the only way to run a trace on it is if you happen to have a friend at the police department or someone in car insurance. Or trace owners back until you find the original.

It sure answers a lot of questions and helps weed out swapped cowl tags.
