Some materials used have been Masonite board, wall paneling, and luan brushed with Arthur Formby's Tongue Oil.

I was thinking of Formica, countertop sheeting. You can get a 4X8 sheet from Lowes for $40, cut four sheets from one sheet, glue two sheets together, and have an endless life panel.

When re-attaching the panel back onto the door, be sure the pastic sheeting is long enough and in good shape. It must fit into the groove/slot at the bottom of the door to prevent the panel from getting wet and to drain the water to the outside.
