I'm going to buy some vortec heads and I am curious if I can run regular rocker arms if I use guideplates? i saw a site where they said this would be fine but I wanted to confer with you guys to make sure. I really don't want to shell out another $165 for rocker arms... thanks guys

i would think stock rockers would be fine unless you plan on turning some high rpms thats is where aftermarket rockers r probably quite an advantage as they r stronger and lighter just my opinion though

No! You can not run regular rocker arms with the Vortec heads. You must use the self aligning rocker arms or have guide plates installed in order to use regular rocker arms. Do a search on the subject and you will find several other posts on this subject.

you'll need to machine the stud bosses down the thickness of the guideplates and thread the holes for screw-in studs. By the time you pay for all this machine work and the studs, you might figure the self-aligning rockers are cheaper.
