It's cuz of yur paid membership. You get access to "Premium Forums" and us non-paid don't.

Seems like it'd be easy enough for the site owners to add an option for the paid folks to shut OT off if desired.

That said, I have 3 Geico ads on this page alone and the right side has few more ads as well. Doesn't bother me much though, gettin use to it...
Howdy Garth. Sounds like I should rejoin as a non paying member...

Adblock Plus will clear those ads. Works great....

Edit: I just checked one of the threads and a lot of the posters are non paying members.

You think so ? Pretty I sure I have some type of ad blocker, but maybe it's not up to date. This is the only forum I visit that's flooded with ads!

That's what I was thinkin' too. Sign on with a different name, but of course all yur credentials go down the drain. Surely we'll know who ya are, though! :love:lol

EDIT; I dunno Don...try signing on under a different name. I bet you won't see OT.

LMAO... :ROFLMAO: Maybe my new user name will give a clue. Something like “The Crack of Don”

Wonder if Scott will still bust my chops.

I administer a forum that started out for fourth gen SS's but it's evolved. I kept an off topic forum but this last year even it got too out of hand with the politics and hate threads. It seems people can't debate with respect any longer. I created a forum called "Controversy Forum" and that is the ONLY place on my site you can talk politics or anything controversial. What I found is only a relatively small group of people post there and they have heated debates. People that don't want to be involved in that just avoid that forum. Just my two cents for what it's worth. Not trying to be controversial. ;)

Seems like a decent enough solution, although I struggle with why folks have to inject politics into every aspect of their lives. There are countless other forums where they can express their political opinions. This is a dedicated Camaro site, why is this so hard?

I was thinking the same thing but it’s only been one day. :) I left the pole open for two weeks to give everyone a chance to express their view.

The thing about if you dont want to aee it dont click on it motto, people dont realize that it pours into the rest of the forum. For two members squabbling over politics in OT might not want to help each other in the camaro related topics out of spite.
just get rid of the crap already

I used to get Automobile magazine (16 year subscription) until the feature editors started using their allotted space to post their view/hatred of the former administration. I wrote them to please stop the pages of political commentary that they now printed in the magazine. I gave them 2 months to desist then ended the subscription. It's their magazine and whatever they wanted to print was their business, I just didn't want to have to pay for several pages devoted to maligning the former President.

Another example. I've watched SNL (Saturday Night Live) since it's inception and have enjoyed it throughout the decades. Until the last 4 years where the writers/actors used the show almost exclusively to berate the former President. I know the writers are liberal in nature, but in the past they would tease whoever was in office and the humor was usually funny and not necessarily insulting. That changed with the last President and the SNL staff let their slip show a bit too much and the show wasn't funny to me due to the onslaught of hatred. No more SNL.

I don't think I've ever been to the Off Topic area of the Camaros website and couldn't imagine partaking in a heated political discourse on a car oriented forum. But I'm not offended by there being an area on the website devoted to Off Topic discussion, NO MATTER WHAT THE SUBJECT. Off Topic is Off Topic.

Most importantly, I have recently noticed that there seems to be a push now to eliminate online political discourse in the country. Especially conservative viewpoints.

It may not seem important now, but it may soon come to pass that the only way to offer a counterpoint to the torrent of propaganda might come down to non-political websites like Camaros.net. I wonder if someone already anticipates this site (and others like it) as a freedom of speech haven.

Please leave the Off Topic forum as it is.

If... at the end of two weeks we have a poll with a 2/3rds or better majority in favor of banning all the political BS, will (or can) the moderators do what the majority of the members are requesting? Or is it up to the Forum owners?

I just quit one of the FB Camaro groups because of this very thing, but in that case the admin/owner or whatever they are on that particular page got offended by someone's political post... and the moderator then proceeded to post some heavy stuff about his own political beliefs. I was just another bystander, but when the moderator unloaded on everyone, I just said Sayonara Boys. I much prefer forums to FB groups, but the groups are OK. I'm in another automotive forum for over 15 years and they had a deal where you had to be invited into an "off color, anything goes" section. I never asked to look, and I liked that setup. I use the NEW button every time I come here, so if nothing else, maybe there's a way to eliminate OT and Bench Racing from the NEW button, and instead let those sections have independent NEW buttons?

I'll live with whatever happens, but would be OK if Politics were banned just like Porn, Drug Sales, and Violence. I'd much rather read heated discussions about Offshore Manufactured parts LOL.

It sounds simple to do but it is not. The owners admin would need to delete the forum. The Mods can ask them to but we can not. We can delete, edit ets threads and posts but can not delete a forum in it entirety. The rules prhibit Political and Relgious pots on Forums. However, OT was and is the exception.

The owner of this for-profit Forum like all the other they own count page visits. That's what sell advertising. To them the it's all about number IMO. OT, love it or hate it, gets page visits.

The Mods could theroetically delete political posts but is that a slippery slope? What some see as political others may not.

Since premium members have payed to not see advertising, perhaps an opt out could become available to them?

I simply chose to use the ignore function. I no longer see post from those individuals I don't relate to since it is MY preference.
Don't click on OT would do the same thing. There seems to be just as much drama as politics. How do we ax the drama?

When I click on new I see all the OT threads that have had activity since my last visit. I don’t choose to see them. In fact I spent a fair amount of time trying to adjust my settings so that I don’t see them.

Yes I don’t need to click on them but I feel the hatred spewed there poisons this entire forum. Especially when a member threatens to shoot another member and is not banned. I’ve also seen a member challenge other members to a fist fight. WTF....

We don't leave a crack pipe at the dining room table for a cocaine addict. We don't put beer in the fridge of an alcoholic. Not everybody's able to remain quiet while people are allowed to spew hatred and BS.

Don, did you report the personal threats? Personal threats are not allowed on OT, but they need to be reported.
