I just about got my engine harness put in (67 camaro w/ small block 350) then ran into a little snag when I got to the engine ground. The ground that I pulled off only had the purple wire connected and if you look at the pic you can see where the yellow wire was just cut off and taped. The new harness has both the purple and yellow wire. Why would the yellow wire be cut off? Should I not attach both the purple and yellow wire?

These are your Coil wires. I think you need both unless I'm missing some modification you have where you don't need crank signal from ignition switch.

Well, I can tell you that whatever this yellow wire is that was coming off the old harness was not used. This have something to do with the HEI? I know that is a stupid question, but I never really knew what is what for.

You do not need that yellow wire if yer using an HEI distributor. That's why it was taped back. You do not need that fabric covered resistor wire either.
They went to the stand-alone coil for the points distributor setup. The give away is the pronged spade connector on them.

Okay, cool. Thanks. Last question is this new harness has this metal adapter on it, which the original one I pulled out did not. What is this for? Does this bolt to the motor somewhere or something? The original wire went through a tube down by the bottom of the motor and the ground came out through this and attached to the lower side of the block. Anyone know what this piece goes to?

It bolts into one of the transmission mounting holes. It is to hold the harness from the exhaust. You have 2 bolts on the side. I believe it goes into the upper hole. The little tab is so it grabs the housing and doesn't rotate when you tighten up the bolt.

I am assuming this is the wires to the starter.

Okay, I said ground only because I assumed that's what it was. The existing purple wire that I removed was on the passensger dide of the block close to the bottom. The original wire harness was fed through a tube and came out on the passenger side if the block and was mounted to the block with a small nut.

Grounds are almost always black on a vehicle. I've seen some battery cables with a red ground before. :noway: Not a good idea IMHO. Sounds like the folks talking ignition might have something, but purple and yellow sound like starter terminal connections to me. Purple for crank and yellow for breaker ignition startup voltage. (Not needed for MOST Electronic ignition systems). I'd terminate any unneeded wires near the load point. Nip off the terminal (or not) and put a piece of heat-shrink tubing on it with some dielectric grease packed around the terminal. Shrink it up and tuck it back in the harness.

Thanks for the info guys. Got it put on Sunday and went on with no problems. The old wiring was pretty rough. Starting on the rear tail lamp harness next weekend......
