has anyone had this done and are there any problems with that style? I really like the look but was wondering if fumes or anything would be a problem. this is just for future reference. thanks

I don't know about the fumes, But in delaware the exhuast pipes must exit in the original location. I know california is even tougher on emissions...Just something to think about.

Other than it being illegal in most states there aren't many problems with it. If you have a vehicle inspection program it won't pass. Most states require the exhaust to exit behing the rear axle. Only car I know of that had a stock die exhaust (besides corvettes with sidepipes) were the AAR Cuda's and T/A Challengers. I had to prove that the system was stock, a couple of times during annual inspections.

The other problem is that the pipe won't clear subframe connectors if you have them. One of the mags showed an install on a first gen Camaro a few months ago and the subframe connectors had to be severely notched (like 2/3 of the way thru) to clear the side exiting pipes.

The Ford Lightning should be fine. Most laws reference the pipe exit to the passenger compartment. The Lightnings side pipes exit at a point past the passenger compartment. Now, I do wonder about the side exit pipes on late model Mustangs. Didn't Rousch put those on cars sold thru Ford dealers?

Ah crap.
I just bought exhaust like that and haven't installed it yet. And guess what? I have subframe connectors.
I live in Kansas, and likewise, no inspection. At least, no inspection unless you bring in a car from out of state.

In CA there is no smog inspection if the car is older than '72. You can have a blower out the hood if you want !!!!

I thought about getting that one in the magazine too. Kind of unique but I was worried about the fumes etc with the car idling and the windows down. I have custom SFC that are like the DS&E ones, so I dont think I would have any clearence issues. Still considering, but not likely.

I like the FlowMaster AT series. the pipes are barely visable and route tight to the floor.exit just behind rear tires, but not out the back under the bumper.
