I want to rebuild the front end, but I do not want to use Tubular A Arms because I like the look of Factory parts, Just not this old!





What I have to work with is 1 inch Solid Front Sway Bar, 43 year old springs, Ball Joints, Tie Rod Ends, Idler Arm and Pitman Arm. The Upper and lower bushings were replaced with solid bushings somewhere in the early 80’s. The Factory Four Piston Calipers are leaking like a spaghetti strainer.

The Advantage of having my car at Indy Powder Coating is they can take the parts that are still good, and refresh them. A good place to start.

There was Damage to the lower arms where the Shocks bolt to them. I wish I could say this was caught as they were torn down, but it wasn't caught till the rebuild was started. This is something you really want to inspect before you have powder coated everything already. This was not hard to fix. Nuts were welded into the arm to give it a new place to mount the shocks.

New Parts Pile!!!!
I wanted to have an old school look, but still upgrade the steering and suspension. I picked up Global West off set Upper Control Arm Shaft 702, Energy Suspension Upper and Lower Bushings, and Tie Rod End Links, and Mounting bushings. My upper and Lower Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends are MOOG. The Idler Arm and Pitman arms are a matched set from Classic Industries. Instead of using the Stock style Tie Rod Adjusters; I used UMI Performance Forged Adjusters. Hotchkis Sport Suspension Lowering Coil Springs 1907F 1”- 2” Lowering.
I may be wrong but together with the new Rear Disks I intend to add to the car, I am pretty sure the Front Factory Four Piston calipers should do quite well. Mine, if you examine them closely, have been altered. The top pin area has been milled off, and once the pistons were blown out, the cylinders were pitted. Even if I had them sleved, they still would not have been good enough. I went ahead and ordered a set from Classic Industries. They are actually from Lone Star Brakes. All I can say is WOW. These are exact reproductions, except they are Stainless steel sleeved. The Front Rotors were from Just Brakes in Ohio. The Dust Shields are from Classic, and the Bearings and Seals are from Rizzi’s Auto Parts on Ebay. Lastly the Shocks are Hotchkis HPS 1000

So much for the pile of parts. Now Assembly starts. Remember when you are putting it all together, You MUST Slide the sway bar through before you assemble the A-Arms.

Last the Manual Steering box needs to be painted, then the rest of the steering parts can be installed.





Again this is a real advantage to having my car rebuilt at a place that is also a Powdercoater. I do not have to ship things all over the city. The front sub frame is not new, it is better than new.

Already had them. The powder coater did not know I had new shields, and I did not know till I took the pics that they had not been removed. They have been installed.
