Fuel gaugeon my 67 Camaro registers beyond the full mark by approx, 1" .I removed the ground wire to the frame ,cleaned it & refastened it securely. Still registers the same. Car has been driven only 1665 miles since 1987 & at that time had a New tank & sender unit installed .Would the float be stuck or defective, gauge faulty or what?? Need answer!!

if the ground is clean try cleaning the sender connection at the sender( but before that)..there is a 2 prong connector and wires right at the fuel neck in the trunk one one these two goes to the sender you can check it there for ohm's to verify that it has a good connection before dropping the tank..or pop the dash instruments out and probe the fuel gauge wire for some ohmage...

try this out first, you should find out where the problem is. mine ended up being a bad ground from the sender, my fault from when i installed a new tank.
sender was in pretty bad shape though, so i bought a repro unit from rick's for 49 bucks, works great. good luck.

Take the brown wire that goes to the sending unit and touch it to ground. Turn your key on and your guage should go to empty. The guage is actually looking for a ground . If it does then the guage and wires are good. Then check the grounds on the tank and the sending unit. If you have a ohm meter you can check the sending unit and it should read about 90 ohms. If that checks good then check the wiring to the guage connection and guage it self.
