i have a 68 camaro and i put a 1970 vet motor in it. i have 2 fuel pumps and when i put eather one in its seams like the push rod off the cam isn't long enough it dosent reach the pump lever. i dont no what year the pumps came out of. is there a difference in pumps in small block chevys or is there a longer rod for this.please help.

No difference in all small blocks. Make sure you are getting the lever of the pump underneath the pushrod. If the rod is too short it might be a wrong rod or it is damaged.

I think on a small block you can put a long bolt in under the fuel pump to hold the rod in place while you put the pump on. Just remember to remove the long bolt when you are done and put in the short one.
