I just changed all of my gages from mech. to autometer elec. with a Sun tach. Everything is new. All the wiring has temporary connections until i'm sure everything works right then i will hard wire it. The power for the gages and tach are all ran from the ign. spade on the fuse blk. I started it up and all of the gages read exactly the same as the mech gages and the tach was steady also. I was looking over all of the connections while it was running for leaks etc. and when i looked at the gages again, they were all pegged and the tach was at 0. I rechecked all connections, moved the ground to a different spot. No change. I then disconnected the tach and ran a wire from the battery directly to the tach. Restarted the eng. and everything works perfect. I ran the eng for about an hour and the problem never came back. Obviously the tach was the problem but i don't know why. Anybody ever see this before?

Re: gage electrical problems

You went to church Sunday didn't you. It might have been a fluke, who knows. If it does it again with any kind of consistency after the wiring get's finalized then it will be easier to troubleshoot and hopefully within the warranty window. Sometimes too I like using some temporary connections but sometimes these can be the problem.
