Dumb question, can you use a gear drive on a roller cam? If not...whyyyy? I love the whine of the gear drive but I am going to switch tho the new thumpr cam from comp and I want that whine.

My buddy has a Pete Jackson (noisy) gear drive in his 406 SBC with an Ultradyne solid roller with no issues. The gear set comes with a thrust washer and a roller button to control cam walk.

Sorry to hear about your addiction to whine. :D Have you tried AA? :noway:

As stated it isn't an issue using a gear drive. The problem arises with controlling the cam with rollers. You must use a thrust plate or thrust button or something to constrain for and aft movement (the better the control the longer your distributor gear lives with any given size oil pump).

if your running the 87-up style block and cam you`ll need a gear drive for the factory roller blocks. if your using the older style then it will work just fine as long as you use the thrust bumper as others have said.
