I tried that and couldn't see anything.

It is very hard to see, especially if the car has been repainted. The location they are talking about is a flat, horizontal surfaces under that grill that could easily be filled with paint during the restoration.

Wiper removal tool? Small screwdriver works fine.

I believe he is saying he lost the tool in the grill.
