getting ready to start putting the ladder bar frame in the 87 Camaro. Figure I can put the front tires on ramps and level the back with jackstands. Will there be a problem with it not having the weight of the engine and tranny in it? Have people helping with this but we are new at this. Putting a ladder bar set up in her. Any one got tips on this, what to do/not do? All the info I have is from reading stuff and pictures. My helper knows some builders but hasnt done this himself either. Any advice would be great!

Remember, when the floor pan is removed the
weight of the rear portion of the car will
be resting on the quarter panels essentially.
It may not be a bad idea to put some temporary support in the car.A tubular crossmember welded in will keep the panels from buckling and give a support for jacks.

There are directions, including videos available. I believe Chassis Works, Art Morrison or maybe Chassis Engineering has them. Try giving them a call.

You will want the car to be perfectly straight. I would suggest finding a way to clamp the car down before you remove any portion of the floor because once you cut it out, if the car moves you wont be able to get it straight again.

When we did our car we used wood blocks to set the body at the exact ride height we wanted. Use plenty of them- we had something like 14 or 16- supporting every part of the body and floor so it wouldn't sag or change when we cut out the floor. The reason for setting it at the ride height was to see where everything would end up- tubs, ladder bar mounts, shock mounts, etc., before we welded in the framerails. Don't forget to allow for suspension movement and tire growth too. When you're mocking up the rims and tires make sure the tires are fully inflated.
We ran a centerline down the garage floor with nails and string and measured off of it to get everything straight. Do not expect to measure off the car itself- they're never straight. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, will be sure to block it up. Anxious to get started. A friend will loan me his tires for mock up, doing this as money permits. No garage and of course rained all weekend,

After having it assembled and all the weight put back into it, be sure to have it Thrust-Aligned.

This makes the front end track with the rear axle, a world of difference.

But, as been suggested, support each and every piece to prevent sagging. And measure from the centerline on the floor.
