I'm thinking of buying a 1996 Camaro Z28 that has the LT1 V8 Engine, it has 115,xxx miles and the seller says that it needs valve seals because it's leaking and burning oil. I know some shops around here charge $67 and hour so I can do the math on the price but how many hours worth of work should it take a shop to replace the valve seals?
Also since it needs valve seals, could it also need new heads and other internals replaced? Wondering if I should get it and get the repairs done or if I should stay away from it. Thanks

A lot to consider Scott... How much are you paying for the car and what is the overall condition of the car? What is the sellers expertise to be able to say it needs valve seals? Valve seals would cause the engine to burn oil but I'm not so sure it would be the cause of any leaking of oil.

If you are serious about the car, you would be wise to take the car to a mechanic and pay him a couple hours of labor to give the car a good once over and run diagnostics . There are a lot of 4th gen Camaros out there so be choosey. There is a reason you'll find prices all over the board starting as low as $1,000 and as high as $10,000 or more! Add to that, the sellers all love their cars and think they are special so want top dollar.

Nothing wrong with the lt1. Optispark had someproblems. I never have. My 94 has a lot of work in drive train. Never had an issue. Hope you paying less than $2k. I can't get $4k out of my rust free, VERY good body t top with 131k on odo. With motor worked over at 79k, built rear end with 3.73s and very well built tranny with less than 5k miles on it. Brand new 17x10.5s with good 275/40s all round. Car has about $7 in drive train and I can't get $4k for it.
