Looking at options for making a better driver out of my 69. Not wanting to go full pro-tour here, keeping stock subframe and leaf style rear end. Street machine here, not a race or drag car.

Really looking for expectations for a lightly modified car. Considering options like this:

• Detroit Speed Kit front suspension - stock frame, tubular control arms, shocks, coil-over conversion, sway bar, quicker box etc.
• Detroit Speed rear leaf kit
• Gen IV disk brakes
• T56 conversion
• 17 inch wheels/tires that fit in existing wheelwells.

Engine BBC with aluminum heads and water pump.

My expectations are that this or a similar package would be far superior to the stock stuff - the key question is how good. I daily drive a Gen IV and while the ride could be a little better, the handling/stopping feels 30 years newer than the old gal. Just not sure what to expect with light suspension mods and heavy BBC in the nose.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Tom, I have all of this and then some ... but unfortunately won't be able to give you true feedback for a couple of months .. ):

I believe that with the setup you mentioned it will be night and day change from your current.

I'd repost this question over in Pro-touring or Lateral-G ... you'll get a TON of good feedback there

Considering a new Silverado (or Cruze) would likely beat my old car through a slalom course and stop better as well there is a lot of room for improvement.

I'm not a DSE fan. I don't know what bushings they use or what coil over but you should be close to a nice handling ride. Address the bump steer and you'll likely be happy.

Tom take a look at CPP's pro touring kits. i have a stage III in my car which was all stock when i bought it with no swaybars. this kit gets you new front qa1 coilovers, tubular arms, front swaybar. new multi leafs, rear qa1 shocks, rear sway bar. The car was like a brand new car after adding all this. i would also recommend subframe connectors which i also did. made it just that little bit more stiff. car has minimal body roll taking a decent curve at highway speed. for the price of their kits i dont think you could do better. quality was great, all bolted in with zero issues.

I have stuff stuff ft control arms excellent q-a with 500 springs,4 leaf rears springs q-a on the rear . 1 inch sway bar ft and 7/8 rear 427 aluminum heads water pump intake . Car rides very nice you can sets honks to the ride you like
