found time to start my head swap. thanks to every one on the board with there input & info that i gathered to do this. the old heads are the brodix very old there 1st castings from the 90s there 170 with 67cc so my compression was very low for my cam 292 magnum compression is 9.5.1 pistons .022 in the hole with .038 head gasket

now the plan == spoke with Eric Weingartner for the money to go with the profilers 195 64cc
going to have them flat milled down im looking to get like 11.1

I'm going to use 1094 gasket its .015 my quench will be 37 with the pistons 22 in the hole

Need to ask? All the head bolts go in to water? Do i need to get all the water out
Is .030 to much to flat mill the head?

My cam is at [email protected] 50 501 lift if i put 1.6 rocker it will be 540 lift will the valve hit the piston

11:1 CR? Why? Is this a race engine? You're running the very ragged edge even with aluminum heads unless the guy who suggested them figures you're bleeding off compression due to the high duration of the cam. As far as the pistons kissing the valve, you can do all the math you want but you won't know for sure until you mock it up and put clay on the piston than measure how thick the clay is after the valves make their impression in them. From Racing Head Service:

Engine builders have found that all you need on the intake side is the total amount of deck clearance plus .010”-.015” for piston rock (pivoting in the bore wall). On the exhaust side, you need 2 to 2 ½ times the clearance you have on the intake.
If aluminum rods are being used, add a minimum of .030” to these suggested clearance figures, as they stretch and expand more than steel rods.

.080 intake and .100 exhaust is what I was always told.

I had a buddy who played with quench and was on the edge of catastrophe...he had witness marks from the valves on the pistons :eek:
NA 383 that was running 10.30's in a 70 Nova.
