Hi All

Like the title says...
Have a 67 camaro swaping in an '96 LT1
Want to run long tube headers. (For sound and flow)

I was thinking of these from Jegs..

Anyone know of any combinations that have worked for sure?
My concern is Fitment..My thoughts are... that the car has way less in the way to get hung up on, except the steering column. Even still im thinking there shouldnt be an issue. Hoping to get some thoughts and possible some previous experience to help me out...

what about the D Port head design? You dont think it matters? I know they will bolt on but will there be any restrictions or consequences with the square port design of the traditional header?

I have Fastburn heads with a large D shaped port. 1 3/4" tube headers were necessary in order to not occlude the port. I used Doug's D368 and they fit great, and should work for you as well. Search around here - lots of guys like the Dynomax 1 3/4 to 1 5/8 stepped headers as well. Either should work well for you. Avoid Hooker #2131 - they hang too low for a lowered car.

I used regular 67-69 Hooker longtube headers on my old 68 with a 94 LT1 and the car had AC and PS so I needed a set that would clear both. I forget the part # at the moment but they fit well and the d-ports didn't really cause any problems.

thanks for the info guys... and didn't even consider the ride height... car is lowered...
I guess the verdict is that the square port doesn't matter then? I just want to make certain that flow is there.. we spend so much money for such small advantages, i don't want to negate these small but expensive advantages with a bad header choice... Im really liking the look of the OBX header for the LT1 motor. i would already have purchased them but its the angle and length of the piping that goes down before it tucks under the car. Just wondering if it will clear the firewall. here's a link for reference.

you will be able to see the difference in the angle and possibly length compared to the dougs header suggested....

I have a 68 with a 95 LT1 and im running the full length Hookers that i had my old 350. I called Hooker about the D shaped exhaust port when i was doing the exhaust on the car and they said as long as you use the 1 3/4" primary you wont have a problem and i dont. Interesting to find out about the ground clearance though. They dont hang that low but they could be a little higher i guess. I would like to see what other people are running and how much better it really is

After much research and head scratching for my LT1, I bought Hedman# 68609 D port shorty headers uncoated. I tried regular 1-5/8 small block headers and it did not even come close to covering the head ports. I will have them coated after. I had to bang one tube to clear the steering box. I could not ever find a mid length or full length header for LT1's
