I have a 69 RS with power steering and all
that stuff, i had bought a set of Hooker
block huggers to install for better clearence.
problem, 1 the fiberglass caseing around the
airconditioner system touches the headers on
the left side, thats not so bad but on the
right i cant even get the headers in, because
the steering box (gears) are in the way.
i dont know if i should save myself 10 or so hp by just converting to manual, or switch to a Vega steering box (which is smaller)
but i still dont know if that would give me the ammount of space that i need for those headers. what is in right now for this and does anybody want to trade or sell there headers for a fairly good price? thanks alot.
well it hits the steering box, its about
2in in the way, down the center where the
hookers come out the most, to on the
center of the steering box
(where the center sticks out) im not sure what im going to do, i think i am going to just get another set of headers,
(which insn't too cheep for a 17 yr old kid
such as myself)
i wanted to go with them because of the
space limitation that i have in there. and
i didnt want to pop the engine up so i could
fit a full lenth header in there, but i guess
im sol... =(
Exchange your block huggers for full length, if possible. You won't have to "pop the engine up" to get them in. You should have no clearance problems with the steering box. I didn't with mine. I don't have an A/C car so I can't help you there.
Cornholio, I have Hooker small tube headers on my late model angle plug heads (Corvette aluminum) and have no major clearance problems. The #1 and #6 cylinder plugs are a b&!%# to put on at first, but after you figure it out once, its not a big deal. I push 500 horsepower worth of exhaust thru these small tubes, so don't worry about them costing you power.
i used to have full lenth headers, and i coulndnt get them out because of the steering
box, clutch assebly and the brake system,
i even had the car jacked up but i couln't get them tilted enough, and be able to
manuver them to get it out...
so i just cut the old ones out, and bought
the block huggers, now the block huggers
wont fit... dag gumit! on your camero
are you working with a 350 with the
power steering/breaks etc...?
