Question # 1: I am going through my GM HEI distributor. Under the weights there are nylon pads that the weight slides on, does anyone know where I can get them, I have been unable to find.

Question # 2: I installed the one wire alternator, no problem other than the alternator light now stays on all the time, is there a simple fix?

Sry I have tried the same with your same results...best bet is an old set out of a wrecked car.....the alternative..which I do when moding a dizzy with more degs in so the counter weights dont fall over the edge and stick open...is cut a bit of brown fiber board to shape, clean that and around the hole the pad sits in...light smear of epoxy resin on both surfaces little set for 24 hrs.

Run a forum search on the subject, never used a single wire...they do have the disavantage not having a strong charge at low rpms....and I believe issues with the dash Gen light.

As Steps suggests, a one-wire alt should have a voltmeter and remove the GEN bulb.
A three-wire alt can use the GEN light and no voltmeter, but voltmeter is optional.

I think one of the better brands of aftermarket weight/spring kits will have the bushings in the package.

I have searched the web and many catalogs and found none to have the nylon pads. They all have the post bushings and the bushing for the weight but not the flat nylon pad for the weigh to slide on.
Voltmeter sounds like the way to go for the other issue. I did not know about the Alt. light until I recently installed all LED's in the dash. that bulb probably had been shot for some time.

How about a flathead nylon screw and nut?
Then file the head down to the desired height?

yep i thought about a nylon head nut, but once its filed down, it gets rather flimsy, flimsy enough to be thinking "Hmm now if this breaks...."

The brown fiber board stuff...its the stuff they use at the end of convayer belts or between conveyer belts...comes in sheets

Everett..inside a lot of motors electrical stuff, they use bits of this stuff to mount and insulate stuff inside...Yep thats stuff u are thinking of, is it..
anything like that..which a bit of epoxy will glue to.
Hell even s kim of expoy filed down and polished a bit will do the trick...the only reason I just the board is because I need to go larger than the stock pad so the counter weights dont fall off the edge when putting more degrees in the cent curve.

If you are running a 1 wire alt but still have the factory wiring intact, you might consider switching to a 3 wire internally regulated alt, for the simple fact that the GEN idiot light alerts you not only to a possible problem with the charging system, but to cooling as well since the WP and the alt run off of the same belt. Gauges are nice, but the idiot light gets your attention. A 10 or 12si 3 wire alt is not very expensive.

All good information, thanks to each one for your input. After being away from cars for almost 40 years, I have relied heavily on TC members for info that has got me out of some jams and kept me from getting into others.

Re idoits lights....
I run the temp sensor in the head, gauge sensor next to the therostat housing.
A T off the block, oil pressure idiot light sensor AND the gauge pressure sensor.
One doesnt watch the gauges on a road trip in traffic etc....
And why call them idoit lights?
Because people understand a red light at an interesection, railway crossing, anywahere except a red light on the dash...they stop for all but the ones on the dash...idiots.

I used to love folks pulling into the 'Service' Station I worked in in Jr. High - they'd want to know what to do about 'this red light on the dash that's says "OIL" ... '
Told more than one pushy guy (usually the ones that honked to get you come over to them :mad: ) non-regular (we were full-service and had higher fuel pricing than the stations on other corners) I didn't know ... take it to their 'regular mechanic' to be sure ... (where's the little devil horns smilie when I need one :p )

gee John, sounds like you worked at the same Chevron I did in high school. Most of the pretty girls in town knew how they could get a few extra gallons in their tank lol.

I run a single wire alternator and haven't had the idiot bulb in place for 14 years. I really only look at my gauges when sitting at stop lights. Flashing red and blues behind you will indicate any serious problems.

Nup, have a few..gum trees are in Aussie....we have subtroical forest, they have red dust and gun trees, except on the NullAbour Desert....and why is it called Nullabour?
Nope not aboridgal....Latin... no trees
