I got it home and i am over whelmed, where do I start it needs all panels & floors need replaced , innner fenders. and rear frame rails are rough. Where do i start, im also worried the integrity of the metal if i remove to much rust areas causing body to flex or shift, can you guys advice me where to start ? 1 peice floor pan ? something diiferent to start with ? how will i know how far to cut for proper placement of pan ? Im ready to buy a mig welder with gas bottle, can i get by with 110 v or should i invest in the 22v unit ? i hope you guys can help me get this party started , ive vey exited.. havnet been able to sleep since i got the car home

Re: Hello everyone / project 69 camaro conv

You will need a jig to put the body on to keep it square. You will also need the body measurements. Someone post where to get these numbers, I dont know. And above all else, post pics...

Welcome Scott. Where did you get the car from? Buy a 220V system. Look on craigs list and local papers/pawn shops. How did the Wife take it when she saw your project?

Re: Hello everyone / project 69 camaro conv

wife did kinda freak a little, i remember her saying she would have to work longer to help me pay for it, what a keeper uh!!
i made small talk with an employee about 1 yr ago that my dream car was 69 cam conv and he claimed his son had one and would sell it. later his son claimed he would sell but his price was to high. last saturday he called out of the blue and said he was ready to sell. i got it for $2500. but wow what a job i will have, however i know the parts are out there. besides Im not scared, crap who am i kindding i am scared i will screw it up. Im hoping with everyones help. i can build to be something special.
question for the jig to get it square are you all saying before i start cutting anything remove the uniframe and replace with a jig of somekind to keep it square before i start cutting metal. Should i do 1 piece floor board first ? thx

Congrats and welcome to team camaro! Twenty five hundred bucks isn't bad for a 69 rs convertible needing work or not.

Re: Hello everyone / project 69 camaro conv

Greetings from Arizona
sounds like good beginning. One thing I'll tell you, take pictures, and alot of them, It took me 2 trys and 13 years, wife #2 left, so that slowed progress for couple years. Having pictures of everything you take apart rally helps when going back togather even if its 1 month or 2 years.
and come up with what you want your car to be. I startrd out to restore, but it turned out modified , but is a weekly driver, short or 400 mile trips. gotta drive it ALOT Jay

Congrats on the membership and to your new purchase.
As suggested, make an album, the older we get, the less we remember.
Always measure, even before tearing apart.

When a 'vert body is on a jig, an extra brace is needed for support when the doors are removed. Rocker panels can not keep the body straight like a coupe with a roof.
