I bought a carb still in the box a few years ago from my friend that got it from summit right before they stopped making them. I just finished putting my exhaust and headers back on after replacing the gaskets. I still have a pretty obnoxious exhaust that is sticking to my clothes, hair just by being around the vehicle while its running. The motor runs pretty good has an occasional carb backfire when I rev up and down alot but all around works good. I think the smell and watering eyes is from a carb in need of adjustment. But I don't know how and I looked up the edelbrock directions and they don't make sense either.......any easy instructions or advice on what to do? or am I looking in the wrong spot...... The carter 600cfm carb looks like the edelbrock avs.... Thanks for any help

Hook a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold or bottom of carb to read fulltime vacuum.
Adjust the idle mixture screws, two large headed screws in/out for best vacuum reading, higher number. you might have to go back & forth between the two screws.
Might even take and advance initial timing, say 8° to 12° BTDC.
Readjust curb idle.

All of this after the engine has been bought up to operating temperature.
