I'm new here and searched all over and can't seem to find anyone with the same problems. I got a 95 3.4 5 speed that was running great until one night I got in to leave school turned the key to the on position. And nothing. No instrument panel lights but the radio and blower motor kick on and when I turn to start the starter won't turn either. Me and my automotive electric teacher at school ran a jumper wire and got the power to the ecm I just had to popstart it. Already replaced the ignition lock cylinder with no change but does anyone else have an idea of what it could be?

Two things come to mind -
1. Neutral safety switch adjusted correctly or needing replacement if burned out, if auto equipped.
2. Ignition switch needing adjustment or replacement, if faulty, allowing solenoid power to neutral safety switch.
3. VATS not satisfied from ign key - if first attempt to start does not happen, remove key and wait three minutes, then attempt to start with same key.
If engine cranks and starts, then correct the tumbler socket, you just replaced, so it should be good, but the two thin white wires in the connector should read the ign key chip when unplugged - no ohmic reading, no VATS, no start.
If engine does not start/crank, then key socket misaligned or two thin white wires have no continuity to VATS module.
Or START relay is burnt.

With the new key switch I had soldered the right resisitor into the vats wire and turned my car on with the jumper wire the security light is not on so its not VATS I assume. I don't know how to adjust the ignition switch and I was assuming the was the problem. And it's a 5 speed but thank you for the reply. That ignition switch is on top the steering column right?
