Maybe Al can shed more on the subject, I'm guessing because it could cause a ton of issues if the guy that starts a thread decides to delete his orig post and takes all the replies with it. I know we are more liberal with the editing feature than most other sites who give you about 10 or 15 minutes to edit then lock out the feature. I know that the intent is to keep folks from starting something and deleting what they said later. Here you can always use the edit feature on your own posts. After 10 or 15 it marks the post as edited though...
You can edit up to about 10 minutes after posting and the "edited by" will not show up. After that time it shows the 'edited by' message so others know that something changed.
The delete function was removed as there were some excellent topics with very good discussion and then 'poof' they were gone. This meant that all the info from the guys who responded was also deleted. Seemed like a huge waste of time and knowledge so now the posts are reviewed by the moderators during regular cleanups and the ones of limited value are removed.
Like Dennis mentioned, we really encourage solutions to be posted so the next time the question comes up, maybe a search will answer it for someone.
