Recently my carbs primary and sec floats have been dropping. Also on the primary side raw fuel is trickling over the boosters and seems to be coming from the squirters. (This was the main problem) I have replaced the needle and seats both sides and added a regulator thinking it might have been excessive fuel pressure. It is still occurring and I have found no contaminants in either float bowl. I replaced the small O-ring type gasket under the primary squirter with no luck as well. I noticed when I removed the squirter a small (valve) is under it. Could there be a contaminant holding open the supply to the squirter? I am reaching here and running out of ideas. What should my fuel pressure be? I am running a carter mech pump :( Please help, SS.

When you say your floats are dropping? Is there a possibility the floats are leaking (hollow brass) or have become saturated and are sinking (black composite float? If this is what you mean by dropping, maybe this would be worth looking at.

It sounds to me like your float level(s) are set too high. Mine were too high and I got the same trickling over the boosters. You really have to crank those needle/seat assemblies in a long way...almost to the point where the adjustment nut won't grab them....that's where I use as a starting point.

No floats are plastic and nothing in them I checked, I normally set the floats level with float bowl upside down. Then check while running with sight plug bumping fender for a trickle out the hole. I don't know what is going on, I have had no problems, then this started and now it is flooding and trickling fuel like no tomorrow. I am really frustrated. Seems odd that a contaminant could get in the system since I have several good filters. What is below the squirters is there some sort of port or? I guess I will operate on the carb again any other ideas are appreciated. SS

If you feel assured that there is no trash in the carb to prevent needle valve from seating, I would take a look at fuel pressure ... Around 6 to 7 is normally how much pressure you would expect to see. Excessive fuel pressure will overcome your float assembly and force additional gas into the fuel bowl creating a flooding condition ...

Yeah, thats why I added regulator, pressure was 4-5psi. I probably dont even need it I wasnt running it prior. This is really ticking me off though. SS

Did you replace any of the gaskets? If the wrong bowl and metering block gaskets are used, it can create some real unusual problems.

it started acting up with correct holley blue gaskets in it. I did replace them with cork but they look to be correct. Initially the carb flooded after I reved up in the driveway about a month ago. After pulling off both float bowls several times and a lot of cussing, it ran fine. In the following weeks I noticed that plugs were sooty and that primary boosters were wet with trickling. So I Replaced the primary needle valve on Sat and now fuel is pouring over boosters. One question I have if the fuel pressure was too low could I have these problems due to needle valve not closing from a lack of pressure? Seems to gottem worse since I added the regulator which ranges from 0-5.5 psi and guage is reading 4psi majority of the time so back to square one. SS

Well thanks for all the previous input, the primary metering block gasket was the problem, the rectangular notch at the top was not completely punched out and therefore the NO ventilation, I blew in both vent tubes and the primary side was blocked which led me to finding the problem. Two dollar part messing up a 20k machine, you got to love it. SS
