I recently installed Hooker competition headers in my 67 327 Camaro. I have a pair of 2" drop coils for the front. I am concerned about ground clearance if I install these coils. Anyone running this combo that can give me some advice? Thanks.
Good to be concerned about your clearance! I have the same springs installed and my Hookers drag on some high spots in the road and on speed bumps. You might need to change to a shorty header (3/4 length) or another model that tucks up closer to the floorboards. Hedman makes a good set of 3/4 length headers as well as Thorley.
This is what I have planned to do for my car...but for now I just drive very carefully!
I have road scraping, speed bump banging, turtle smashing (poor turtle), Hooker Comps. 1.5" lowered rear Hotchkis and sagging stock front coils. There's no doubt that mine will be even lower with the 2" fronts. So, I also think you will have the problem.
I have Hotchkis in the front and rear of my 68 ragtop and hookers on my 350. I scrape all the time. I avoid steep driveways, speed bumps, and the like. I even managed to slice a nice sized gash in the bottom of the headers when I hit a man hole cover from a road that was being re-paved. Now that sucked. Especially when it happen 350 miles away from home. Now that was a loud ride home. I am going to swap out the full length headers to either short headers or go back to exhaust manifolds.
I have a 69 ragtop with 406 and Thorley Headers. I am in need of replacing my suspension because my mono-leafs are basically worthless. So far I have been planning on the full Hotchkis kit that they offer but now I am wondering if that is a good idea. Can anyone tell me just how much clearance you do get with the 2" drop? I would hate to drop $1k and then find out that I had to drop another $400 on new headers to keep from being known as the wild Colorado turtle crusher(especially when my Thorley's are less than a year old.)
Your Thorley's should have the best ground clearance around. Do they hang below the frame rails? I have seen pictures of the Thorley's installed and they seem to tuck right up to the floorboards. My Hookers hung at least 2 inches below the frame rail on the driver's side.
My 69 convert has the full Hotchkis suspension package (front &rear springs with their Sway bars) I bealeave its 1/1/2 lower up front and 2 in the rear or vice versa, anyhow I have Hooker Super Comps that are 13/4 with 31/2 inch collectors. Yes its low but its not that bad my Global West frame connectors are lower. I avoid speed bumps and other high spots but I have had not to much trouble. I know my son has a Lowered Civic SI that scrapes before I do. I would go with it and just becareful. I had more problems getting it on the car trailer to get the front end alligned than I do driving. You wont be sorry when you take it out and see how much better it handles.

I have the hotchkiss front coils and run Flowtech Shorty headers. They only cost $89.00 from summit. I have yet to have any leakagae problems with the headers. I drive my car everyday and around Southern Arkansas the roads can get pretty bad in places and going over railroad tracks sucks. I do not drag or hit anything other than small animals ( 3 times ) that seem to rip my front spoiler off everytime, it lasted 3 impacts then I threw it away. Buying a new one in a few days.
Advice from all of this is, coils will lower your car. It will look and handle better. You will be glad you did it. Make sure ground clearance is from headers ok, like your checking into now.
stay away from small animals and large turtles. Turtles and armidillos make a terrible sound when running them over with your Camaro . The new springs and suspension might alow you to swerve out of the way, in my case hit a log truck head on or smack a rather large Racoon, pull over and go back and get my front spoiler, see Racoon running into woods
get home and clean Racoon fur from control arm
