I need to change out my sagging five leaf springs but can't decide which to use. I'm leaning to Global West because they're five leaf and don't require any additonal traction bars. How about some input from fellow users of both companies springs

I intalled a set of Global West front coils and rear springs with del-a-lum bushings. The L-2's are a little stiff for my taste, but supposedly will be great for my new 406. Aluminum bushings were a big pain to install, but seem worth it to me. FYI, I would also look at Detroit Speed. Their customer service was incredible as was their parts.

Like Big Sky, I would like to install new springs WITHOUT having to use traction bars. I have 454 with about 450hp (at rear wheels). If anybody is using any that don't require traction bars, please post.

Chevy SS, Global claims that no traction devices are needed with their L-2 and 3 springs because of the stiff front part of the spring. I hope they don't ride much worse than factory five leafs.

I just put Global West on my 67 with the del-a-lum bushings and love them. They are a bit stiffer, but it's a great feel in my opionion. I used to have major wheel hop with my single leaf and had to put ladder bars on. I pulled the ladder bars when I put the GW springs hoping I wouldn't need them. I put it on the street and got on it pretty hard and NO wheel hop at all. Very nice setup!

I went to a suspension shop yesterday and was talking with one of the reps about wheel hop. He suggested adding springs clamps to front of leaf, so I bought a bunch. I'm gonna take off the CE j-bars and just try some clamps.

If that doesn't do it, I may add half-leaf to front of spring, as as some others have done here.

Just an update: today I took off my big CE j-bolt traction bars and the car rides a lot nicer, plus got rid of a lot of banging and creaking noises in the rear. I tried one small hole shot and had some minor wheel hop, not much at all. I am next gonna try using additional clamps in the front portion of spring to see if they (the clamps) will totally eliminate all wheel hop.

My springs were originally 5-leaf, but I removed the two lower (shortest) springs, which lowered the car quite a bit and makes it hook up better (softer springs).

FYI, my car is '68 w/454 with about 450hp (dyno'd at rear wheels), 4-spd and 3.73 rear, using BF Goodrich radials.

Steilow's Mule, the 69 Camaro had just springs and had over 600 horsepower. We put Hotchkis leafs on my wife's 73 Camaro with great results and she has the ZZ383 with 425 hp. I had about the same HP with my 350 in my 67 Camaro for autocross use and used the Guldstrand rear leaf springs. I bought Hotchkis springs for the rebuild and will have over 600 hp.

Hotchkis or Global west springs have a stiffer front half and should work fine. the Global West has several versions that are stiffer than the Hotchkis.

The Hotchkis are three leaf and the lowest leaf is a bit like a traction bar, it's fairly long and thick, more like a truck overload leaf.
