how can u tell??

how u can tell if a converter is bad? here is wat happen went to the track couldnt 60 ft for nothing mph was down from 92 to 85 this is a 4200 i got from my freind i traded him my 3500 i used to 60 ft in the 1.60s couldnt today then going down the track everything was going good intill i went to 3rd then it wanted to rev real high and didnt want to pull but driving it normal back thur the return roads everything is fine its does this at wide open this is the first time i ran it at the track with this 4200 any ideas

sounds like 3rd gear is shot in transmission.if first and second pulled fine than thats it 3rd gear gone. may feel a slow or a delay in reverse also but with high stall converters little bit hard to tell if delay is there.
I had the same no 3rd feeling the last pass of last year. Sure enough tore tranny down and 3rd gear was gone. I drove the car to car wash and gas station after getting home from track and it seemed to be fine but I guess I wasn't shifting at 7500 then either!

naw reverse is fine as long as ur going normal speed it pulls real hard in 3rd its just when u going down the track its feels like its slipping so u think 3rd is gone?
Higher stall = more heat. What was your trans temp on that pass? I've heard that excessive heat is public enemy #1 to an auto trans.
