I’m obviously learning as I go restoring this car; and just happened to notice yesterday what PO installed appears to be a really small air filter. The base/top plates are 15”x8” oval shape; however, the air filter itself is only 1 1/4” tall by 37 1/2” circumference; therefore, roughly 47 square inches of filter surface for air to flow across.

For a SBC, 383, with 600 cfm carb; is that sufficient to allow proper intake air flow? What’s the rule of thumb guideline?

Street car ?...yes, plenty enough...as long as it's not too close to the carb vents

Get some Mothers mag wheel polish and clean that thing up.
