My 89 305, tpi has a few problems but one of the most annoying is its idle. When engine is cold idle is fine. When it reaches operating temp, and I shift into neutral or come to a complete stop rpms fall rapidly almost to the point of stalling but soon come back up.

Also it only gets around 150 miles to a tank is this close to normal. Its a manul and I don't get into that much.

Sounds like your IAC, idle air control, is about shot. When you coast slowly the idle should stay at about 1000 to 1200 rpm and then as you stop the idle will drop to about 800. This IAC costs about 30 bucks so you might want to have it checked with a scanner before shelling out the money for a new one.

I had the same problem in my 85 v6 tpi and the problem was the fuel pump relay and the harness it was connected to

Fuel pump relay---$10
new wiring harness---$25 very overcharged
