Hi everyone i have this problem every now and then. When my motor is running and then i turn it in the off possition with the key, every ones in awhile it stays running. I ended up replacing the key tumbler and the switch thinking it was the problem. Maybe its a little better with my new parts installed. But not a 100%

Sound more like it is the switch located down on the steering column, or is that the one your replaced?

Are we talking about a Camaro Skeeter? Are you saying the engine continues to run normally or does it churkle and chug (dieseling)? Does your car have all original parts on it or are you running an aftermarket igntion like MSD or something?

Yeah a 69 camaro, with a new swtch at the bottom of the steering colum. I turn the key off and sometimes the motor still runs untill i stall it with the clutch. I know you need to line key and the switch up in the lock possition befor you install the long rod that goes from the key down to the switch. Yes i am running a MSD 6LA Box and Distributer.

Thanks guys what ever you can do to help.....

I know you guys have all the right info on trouble shooting, what ever i can do to help, let me know...

I know there is an alternator issue that will back-feed the electrical system. Seems like there is a similar problem with some MSD boxes. If I'm on the right track, the fix involves installing a diode in the offending circuit. Lets see if some others out there have first hand experience with either problem.

I had the same thing with my MSD 6AL box...Yes, this is common. Just wire in a diode at the alternator (100ma) and this will fix your problem.

Sounds like you are describing 'dieseling' advance your timing a couple of degrees
No not a chance, but thanks. The motor is still running, and you can evan drive it, untill you stall it. I evan turn the key on and off as far as i can in the off position thinking the ignition key and switch was not in sinc.

tilt or non-tilt column? on a tilt column the mounting holes for the ign sw( where the wires connect) is slotted. There is a small hole on top of the sw to put a alignment pin in to sync it with the key off position.
maybe the same for non-tilt(don't remeber off the top of my head)

Yeah it came with the alignment pin and is aligned no-tilt, but im leaning toward the MSD.
