I have a 67 Camaro with a 10SI three wire alternator. A few months after I bought the car, the battery died and the TSP 10SI alternator was faulty. I replaced the battery and replaced the alternator with a new TSP 10SI alternator and have realized the external voltage regulator was still connected. The car runs great and the previous owner drove it a long time with the external regulator still attached. What happens if the original voltage regulator is not bypassed? The voltage of the battery with the car off is 12.6 and when running is 14.6. Thanks!

The alternator is definitely working based on those voltages. Now, what VR is operating, who knows?! I would guess the old VR is not actually doing anything and the alternator is doing it all.

Check out my two diagrams attached. One is the factory configuration and the other details the harness mods needed to use a 10SI. It might help you figure out what you have.

Maybe the PO hid any wiring mods and the VR is a dummy? Ya never know!
