Last frame question, I promise

Had another guy come and look at the frame today. Said he could do it for about 300-400 dollars. He wants to do it with the front clip off, no motor in car. Now, I have almost no way to move the car, and I have a question. Can the frame be straightened once the car is assembled? The frame needs to be pulled maybe a half inch on the passenger side. All measurements are within spec, except for the fact that the upper portion of the frame at the a-arm mount is in about half an inch. Right now there are no shims on the cross-shafts, and I know that I am going to need less camber than I have now, which will not be possible unless the frame is pulled slightly.

When I got the car, the passenger side tire was leaning in very slightly at the top, (noticed this once I had the fenders off) and there were shims in it. The driver side does not lean in at the top, and it too had shims on the crossshaft. The car (on the short drive I took) did not have any steering issues, but looking at it, I know it isn't right.

Should I go ahead and put it back together, or should I move heaven and earth and find a way to get it to the shop before I go any further?

I recently had my subframe straighted and I would say 100%.....NO. I'm doing a group un restoration and I would hate to go to all that work and find it's wrong. It would mean heap of work to fix it later, not to mention the posilbe time and money spent trouble shooting it, if it is wrong.

Mine was out of the car and they charged $600 AU which is similar to your quote.

To straighten the frame "Correctly" it needs to be removed and placed on a dead flat surface or on the "jigs" they use. If you cut corners doing this you may end up with problems such as bad brakes, bad steering, bad handling and shocking tire wear.

Is it the body or subframe that is bent? If it's only the subframe you can easily trailor it to the machine shop. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding you.

Spend the extra time and money and you'll know it's done right.

It is the front subframe. The rest of the car is fine, as far as I know.

Remove the subframe, strip it and take it to the chassis guys.

Do you have the measurements you need for the subframe? Let me know if you need them. I got them from someone on here before I did mine.

Brackneyc....... You do not need to take your motor out and strip your car down to straighten out your sub frame. The best and most simple way is to drive your car over to a frame and front end shop where they have a frame machine. You drive in and they should be able to straighten the frame in a half hour or so. If your frame is only off by an inch or so, they can pull it back to specs with no problem. Trust me........Just like I know there are five cities in the Quads.;)

Are you counting Bettendorf or Silvis?
