There is an O ring. I have replaced it while in the car. It's a bit of a pain to get to, but not that difficult. It take a real small screwdriver to get it out, if I remember correctly. Didn't leak much, especially if you tilt the car higher on the driver side. Most of the fluid is below the shift lever. It's just a bit tight against the tranny tunnel.

theres not a o-ring in there it is a seal. you need special tool to remove it if you get it out by any other means you will put scratch marks on shaft and kill new seal or ruin case by putting notches in it.or another thing remove pan and take out linkage get seal out and replace. if you were in nj come to my shop ill do it for 30 bux. any trans shop should do it for about the same price.
